It begins with a real-life twist of fate: a chance to star in a film directed by Nikita Mikhalkov – close ally of Vladimir Putin. Then the pandemic hits. Then comes the war in Ukraine.

What follows is a fast-moving, multilayered performance that slips between 1933 Vienna, 2022 Moscow and 1955 Hollywood, where reality, memory and fiction collide. It weaves in appearances from Robert De Niro, Putin, and members of Pussy Riot, while also presenting an actress auditioning for the role of an actress playing herself.

Kate Pendry is known for her red thread of social commentary and dark humour, and this piece blends Hollywood Drama with dark humor and biting critique.
