The lick of beginning to know you don't know
By Veslemøy Miranda Frengstad
A deep dive into the body, to the desire before the desire, to the human longing for belonging.
«He does not explain or regret anything
He is pleased if he can cause you to perform
despite your plan
despite your politics
despite your neuroses
something quite previous
the desire before the desire
the lick of beginning to know you don’t know
if life is a stage that’s the show
exit dionysos»
– Bacchae, translated by Anne Carson
Enter a meditative micro-universe where longing, sound, and movement fuse into living poetry. In the solo performance The lick of beginning to know you don’t know, dance artist Veslemøy Miranda Frengstad explores the desire before desire and does a deep dive into our fundamental yearning for intimacy and connection.
Through repetitive, hypnotic choreography and live looping of voice and breath, she creates a unique harmony between sound vibrations and physical expression. The performance invites the audience into an intimate atmosphere, dissolving boundaries between performer and observer. It opens a reflective space about how we move within and beyond ourselves, driven by the longing for unity in both vulnerability and strength.
Allow yourself to be carried away by this sensory journey, where dance becomes poetry and the body communicates what words alone cannot.
About the artist
Veslemøy Frengstad (1998) is a trained dance artist from the University of Stavanger and Stockholm University of the Arts (2020). She was part of KreativLab 22-23, a two year project for young choreographers, as a part of Coda Dance festival. As a dancer she has worked with Sindri Runudde, Doris Uhlich, Katrìn Gunnarsdottir and Marie Rechsteiner. Frengstad's creative practice consists of movement, voice work, and creative writing/poetry, and is linked to meditative practices and improvisation. She finds it exciting to explore multiple layers of the body and states of consciousness, and the expressions they can produce. Her work revolves around questions of presence, desire, femininity, and the body's regenerative systems.
