Relæxt is the relaxed venue concept at Rosendal Teater. We are committed to remove all the barriers faced by disabled people that we can, and by doing so work to create an accessible and inclusive space for all.
We hope that this approach can fundamentally change the way that entering our theatre is experienced and make this festival more welcoming and enjoyable for everyone, regardless of their abilities.
The beauty of the relaxed venue concept is in the scale of its vision. We are talking here about transformations in six areas:
#1 the accessibility of the buildings and spaces used
#2 the continual questioning of who and what is programmed, as well as who is doing the programming
#3 how organisations are structured, staffed, and developed
#4 how websites and social media are made accessible
#5 how relationships with audience, staff and volunteers are shaped, expanded and maintained
#6 how an organisation involves itself in its communities; how it listens; how it advocates and amplifies; how it commits to and involves itself in social action.
We offer the following:
– sign interpretation, touch tours, and audio descriptions at selected performances
– a chill zone at the festival centre
– ear defenders on offer at the venues
– fidgets available on request
– relaxed performances* (read what it's about at the bottom)
– website and social media accessibility
– accessibility riders for the artists we works with
– content warnings for our audiences
– access information about our venues
– a work environment that includes people of different abilities and health conditions
What is a relaxed performance?
All performances will be Relaxed. We invite you to make yourself comfortable and move around if you need to and if you need to leave the performance at any point you will be allowed to return to the space when you feel ready.
Feel free to give any feedback regarding the relaxed concept!
All information regarding accessibility initiatives specific to each event can be found on our website.
This initiative is guided and curated by Tonje Wik Olausen and Alexander Roberts, in conversation with the team at Rosendal Theatre, plus important conversation partners such as the many artists involved in the festival, Sjiraffen Kultursenter, Trondheim Kommune, DansiT and Teater Eureka.
