Danselaboratoriet and Danseteateret are two companies consisting of dancers of different ages and functional variations, who work with creative dance; improvisation, composition, choreography and experimental encounters between different people. The companies have worked closely with DansiT since they were established at the beginning of the 2000s, and were part of the Culture department in Trondheim municipality. In the autumn of 2021, the companies became part of DansiT’s operations. This film program shows three films that document different phases of the work in the two companies.

This event is part of Multiplié dance festival 2022 which is presented by DansiT.

Danselaboratoriet (2004)

Length: 17 min

This documentary about the Danselaboratoriet was made in 2004 in connection with Tone Pernille Østern’s PhD project. In the documentary, the dancers talk about how their understanding of what dance is and who can be a dancer changes while they participate in the project. The documentary is made by Pekka Stokke in collaboration with Tone Pernille Østern.

PERFECT (im)PERFECTIONS – stories untold (2014)

PERFECT (im)PERFECTIONS – stories untold was a local performance project initiated by DansiT. Danselaboratoriet and Danseteateret were connected with lyricist / rap artist Trond Wiger and composer / sound artist Arnfinn Killingtveit in an artistic process led by choreographer Philip Channells from Australia. The performance was shown during the Multipliè dance festival in collaboration with Den Kulturelle Skolesekken and was supported by DansiT, the Cultural Council and the Cultural department in Trondheim Municipality.

PREMIERE: Danseteateret 55+ (2019/2022)

Length: 20 min

Danseteatret 55+ was established in 2005. Most of the dancers have been involved since the beginning, so many are now well over 80 years old. This film has been made with the desire to document through movement the physical, creative and choreographic work in the group, which has led to a strong unity, closeness and friendship for many years. In the spring of 2020, the world was hit by the corona, which has strongly affected the closeness between people, and especially for the elderly in society – also the dancers in the company. The fact that these recordings were made in the autumn of 2019 has thus become even more important for the Dance Theater.
