HOW ROMANTIC
By Katerina Andreou og Carte Blanche (GR/NO)
An echo of the dance marathons during the great depression.
In HOW ROMANTIC, Katerina Andreou and Carte Blanche – Norway’s national company for contemporary dance – take us on a physical and emotional endurance test, inspired by the dance marathons of the Great Depression in the US, immortalised in the film They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?
On stage, 14 dancers are in constant motion – alone, in pairs, and as a herd – striving for connection, meaning and intimacy within a relentless choreography.
The performance teeters between freedom and constraint, discipline and rebellion. Melancholy clashes with playfulness, order with chaos – with love as a distant and perhaps unreachable finish line. The result is a hypnotic, high-intensity experience that questions what it means to be in a relationship, and how we engage with each other – and the audience – when everything is staged.
About the choreographer:
Katerina Andreou was born in Greece and lives in France. She’s known for works like A Kind of Fierce (2016), which won an award at the ImPulsTanz-festivalen, BSTRD (2018), Rave to Lament (2021) and Bless This Mess (2024). She’s developing new, physical practices for each new project, and create the soundscapes herself, which are central in her shows. Katerina is connected to National Choreographic Center in Caen (2022–2024) and the master program EXERCE at CCN de Montpellier.
