Opera café at Rosendal - In the Sign of Hope!

We start the new year by inviting 4 young queer singers to start 2024 with optimism and hope. These are difficult times, and the world is facing many major challenges. This makes it all the more important to let the young voices out. In collaboration with Knut Erik, they present a repertoire that makes room for hope, perseverance, joy, vision and dreams for the future.

Doors open at 18.30 - and the bar stays open for one hour after the concert.

Marte Arnesen
(she/her) is a young soprano currently living and working freelance in Oslo. She studied with Elisabetta Lombardi in Fermo in March, but had already completed her Bachelor of Performing Arts in classical singing at Barratt Due Music Institute in Oslo where she studied with Solveig Kringlebotn and Torgunn Birkeland. Marte has sung the 2nd lady in The Magic Flute, excerpts from Engelbert Humperdink's Hansel and Gretel, and Fiordiligi in Mozart's Cosi fan tutte. Since 2021, Marte has performed on several occasions with Queer Voices Opera Company. She has sung excerpts from both Fenton and Falstaff at the Skeive Stemmer Operastudio performance in the autumn of 2021, and has been a regular guest soloist at Operakaféen in Trondheim, Operafest in Kristiansund, and a concert during Arctic Pride in Tromsø. Marte made her debut in the role of Dr Caius in the autumn of 2022 in the premiere of Merry Wives of Windsor - a geurilla opera, with Queer Voices, at Rosendal Theatre, Trondheim. She also toured with the company to The Grimeborn Opera Festival in London, July 2023. In the summer, she appeared in the new world premiere of The Commander, Oscarsborg Opera.


Eirik Mauno Olsen (he/him) is a baritone from Oslo. He is currently taking a bachelor's degree in classical singing at the NTNU Department of Music. He has good experience with solo singing and choral singing where he has participated in several productions, concert singing courses and assignments. He has, among other things, played the role of "hunter" in Queen's Sacrifice and "Yakusidé" in Opera Trøndelag's Madame Butterfly. Eirik sang for the first time for us at the Pride Opening Party 2023.

Vilde Johnsbråten (she/her) is a young singer from Røros in mid-Norway, and sings both mezzo-soprano and soprano repertoire. Vilde is in her second year of a 4-year Bachelor's degree programme in classical singing at the Trondheim University Conservatory of Music. She has been involved in several major and minor productions, including Opera di Setra's productions of "The Merry Widow" (2019), "The Magic Flute" (2021) and "Sound of Music" (2022). She has a penchant for opera, but otherwise sings a varied repertoire ranging from Gregorian chants with Schola Sanctae Sunnivae, to contemporary music in Nidaros Vokalensemble with NTNU Music Institute in Trondheim. The role of Anna in "The Merry Wives" is Vilde's debut as a professional soloist in an opera. Vilde played the role on tour with Skeive Stemmer to Grimeborn Opera Festival, London July 2023.

Sebastian Lyng Malmo
(he/him) is a 3rd year student in the bachelor's programme in classical performance at NTNU in Trondheim. Sebastian had his debut on the opera stage during Opera Trøndelag's production of Madama Butterfly, where he played the Commissioner. Sebastian is also currently starring in Verdal Teaterlag's production of the musical We Will Rock You.
Sebastian performed at the Kultursjokk café at Neadals Pride this year, together with Knut Erik Jensen, and more - now he has been invited to sing at Operakafé at Rosendal for the first time. He starts the year by playing the lead role in the musical We Will Rock You at Aulaen Verdal.

Knut Erik Jensen, (he/him) pianist, lecturer, pianist, singer, composer and accordion musician. He lives in Selbu and is a permanent piano teacher and lecturer at NTNU, Department of Music, where he also received his master's degree in performing piano. He is also the artistically responsible teacher for the piano class at the Saturday School in Trondheim. For many years he has been a sought-after musician in Trøndelag, not least in opera as an accompanist and répétiteur, where he is a regular member of the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and Opera Trøndelag. Since 2007 he has played close to 200 concerts in the USA, mostly as a solo artist, but also with singers and as a soloist with orchestras. This has also resulted in 2 disc releases of Norwegian piano music. He has a very versatile background from several genres and instruments. In the autumn of 2023, he was the conductor for Operakollektivet's production of Systemet - a new chamber opera about the Nav system.

Rosendal Teater is placed in the eastern part of Trondheim, at the other side of the crossing near Lademoen Church. The closest bus stop is Rønningsbakken. Bicycle parking at our wall towards the gas station.
