Rose Water
by Ida Haugen
How does it feel to grow up between two different cultures, with one absent and the other present? What surfaces, and what traces are left behind?
Rose Water is a dance performance that processes what has existed before one’s time, merged with new experiences. In this exploration there is a power that is brought forth via vibrations, spirituality and transcendence.
How to channel the invisible and unconscious? Can this exploration create space for belonging and understanding for what seems foreign?
---
dives into the innermost layers of the body
memories experienced, memories forgotten, memories in tow
damp memories in an undercurrent
a drop in an ocean
flows between states
shifts weight through new center of gravity, the anchor is adjusted
an attempt to create connections and preserve
Handle with care
allow yourself to be embraced

Ida Haugen’s mother came to Norway as a Vietnamese boat refugee. The artist has wanted to understand this on a deeper level, while at the same time linking it to her own identity. Through the process that has taken place since 2021, Haugen has traveled to Vietnam to experience more of her own background. The result is a bodily, visual and auditory interpretation of connections between past, present and future, created in close collaboration with the project’s artistic team.

Content description
Loud noise and music / Theatrical smoke and haze / Incense in the space
Rosendal Teater programs work that challenges what performing art can be, where it takes place and who will create it. We work with voices that are heard less often than others, that are marginalised and alternative. All this means that the performances can often be challenging in their content and expression. If you need to leave the show midway, we have a low threshold and a great deal of understanding for this. On the second floor you will find a relaxed space, where you can retreat. Read more about the relaxed space and accessibility here.
