Studies of a Figure in Green - chapter 1
By LiLi Re
Do plants have feelings? Do they react to threats? And can they lie?
Studies of a Figure in Green - Chapter 1 is a performative installation based on the work of former CIA agent Cleve Backster, who, in the 1960s, attached a lie detector to his office plant. This misunderstood, confused, and fascinating attempt to communicate with nature serves as the starting point for the development of a unique visual world.
LiLi Re combines movement, voice recordings, and video images to create an immersive installation – a sensory environment where the audience becomes part of a pseudoscientific world of hybrid experiments, where they can fall in love with a potted plant and search for truth.
Studies of a Figure in Green - Chapter 1 is part of a trilogy that explores the strange, yet passionate relationship between humans and nature. The title is inspired by the many studies of figures in landscapes in the history of painting. Each "figure" in our work will constitute a chapter in this trilogy.
Content description
This show is in development. Information about its content will be provided at a later stage. Rosendal Theatre programs work that challenges what performing arts can be, where it takes place, and who creates it. We collaborate with voices that are less frequently heard, those that are marginalised and alternative. As a result, the performances often present challenging content and expressions. If you feel the need to leave the performance partway through, we maintain a low threshold and full understanding for this. On the second floor, you will find a relaxed zone where you can retreat. You can read more about the relaxed zone and accessibility here.
